It felt just the right amount of sharp while still comfortable for walking or hopping on a bike.

Trench Coat & White Sneakers Energy

On cloudy days, the locals are all about the trench coat. I brought one in a classic beige shade, and it instantly made every outfit underneath look elevated.
I usually styled it open over a striped sweater and cropped trousers, but it also looked great with black leggings and a hoodie.
Amsterdam weather changes by the hour, and a lightweight trench gives you that ready-for-anything vibe without being too bulky.

A good cream sweater goes a long way in Amsterdam. I wore mine tucked into black tailored pants with ankle boots, and it was honestly one of my favorite looks of the trip.

Striped Button Down & Dark Denim

I noticed so many Amsterdam locals in striped button-down shirts, usually oversized and tucked into jeans. I brought one in navy and white, paired it with dark straight-leg denim and added a belt to keep it all tidy.
This is one of those outfits that works day to night. Then, throw on some heeled ankle boots and a swipe of lipstick and you’re good for dinner too.
Monochrome Neutrals with a Pop of Leather

Neutral layers are basically a sort of fashion language in Amsterdam. I tried out a full beige look like beige knit, oatmeal trousers and off-white sneakers with a dark brown leather jacket thrown over.
The contrast really brought the outfit to life, and I liked how effortless it looked.
If you want to lean into the city’s minimalist vibe, start with neutrals and add texture, like leather or suede for dimension.
Midi Skirt & High Neck Top

Black jeans are a staple in Amsterdam, duh! I packed one great pair and wore them with a tucked-in knit and a long wool coat almost daily. This look is simple but strong and is definitely great for walking, shopping or sitting at an outdoor café with a cappuccino.
Throw on a beanie or scarf and it instantly becomes colder-weather ready.
Cropped Puffer & Cargo Pants

For casual days, a cropped puffer with cargo pants hits the sweet spot. I styled mine with a simple fitted top and sneakers and it came in handy when biking across town or exploring a flea market.
It’s one of those outfits that will just make you look great when it’s so simple to piece together.

I packed a ribbed knit dress in a mocha color, and it ended up being a total win.
No surprise. It looked amazing with a long coat and knee-high boots and I wore it out to dinner at a cozy wine bar near De Pijp.

For a playful twist, I packed a fun graphic sweater and paired it with a black mini skirt and tights. This look gave me the chance to wear something a little cheeky without straying too far from Amsterdam’s cool aesthetic.
